Lady Braves Whip Warriors, 11-4, in Series Opener

TORTOLA –The Lady Braves opened the BVI Soft ball Association best of three playoff series on Friday, by whipping the Warriors to whom they lost in last year’s championships, 11-4.
Winning pitcher Perline Scatliffe helped her cause by going 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Cassie Stoutt took the loss as both pitched a complete game. Lady Braves’ Ivy Cameron had a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored and a run batted in. Stoutt and Kirsten Lettsome each had one hit and one run batted in for the Warriors.
The second game between the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams and the Crushers was suspended in the third inning because of a power outage and was not resumed due to lateness. .
The men's division concluded its regular season on Saturday with the Blue Wings defeating the Virgin Gorda All Stars, 23-0. Lovell Parker tossed a no-hitter in collecting the victory. Andrell Bailey took the loss.
The Blue Wings’ Austin “Woody” Maduro had a grand slam as part of a 2-for-4. He scored three times and finished with five runs batted in. Brian “Matcher” Fahie had three hits in three at bats, scored three and had two runs batted in.
The final game of the men’s regular season saw the Hurricanes rallying to beat the Reds 13-9, as they used four different pitchers in the game, with Roy “Panhandle” Hill, being credited with the victory. The Hurricanes had 13 runs on 14 hits committed 2 errors and left 4 runners left on base.
The Reds had 9 runs on 7 hits 1 error and left 8 runners stranded. Elwyn Barry was the looser. George Burrows and Byron Parsons of the Hurricanes each went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and 4 RBIs. The Reds’ Jerry Gooding was 2-for-4 with scored twice. Byron Hodge had one hit in two at bats and drove in two.
The Playoffs in the men's division will begin on Friday 4 July, 2008 with the Blue Wings facing off against the Young Talent in game one and the Reds facing the Hurricanes in game two.
