TORTOLA—University of Texas Longhorns freshman and British Virgin Islands resident Chantel Malone, secured a ticket to  the 2008 NCAA Midwest Region Championship from May 30-31, in Lincoln Nebraska, with a Triple Jump victory in Saturday’s Victor Lopez Bayou Classic at Rice University.

Malone—third in the Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships in the same event with a World Jr. Championships qualifying mark of 42’6˝”—opened her our door campaign by landing 40’10” after her take off.

The BVI national record holder had a 10th place showing in the Long Jump by equaling her career best measurement after slicing the sand at 19’1˝”. For the first time in her career, the 400 meter runner who ran 56.56 for second last weekend jumped in the 100 meters and produced a time of 12.60 seconds.
