TORTOLA—The Reds welcomed the Virgin Gorda All Stars to their first time game in the BVI Softball Association Arnold “Foxy” Barronville league on Saturday, with a no-hitter, backed up by a power display.
Leon Martin and Captain Michael Vanterpool led off the game with back to back homers, then Delvin “Bopper” Jennings made a triumphant return to the league by tossing no-hit ball for the duration of the 23-3, victory.
“Our team came in focused, we played very well, we did not let up in anyway and we just played ball,” reflected Vanterpool, who was 3-for-3 with two homers, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored. “Virgin Gorda has potential, but the pitching is where it’s at. If you don’t have pitching, you can’t stay in the game and that’s what happened. Their pitching was not as good as we are accustomed to.”
The Reds had 23 runs, 10 hits, 1 error and 5 left on base. Virgin Gorda finished with 3 runs 0 hits, 6 errors and 2 left stranded. Frank Quashie was tagged with the loss. Bryon Hodge had a 2-for-3 game with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in for the Reds.
