TORTOLA—Motivated by setter Osbert “Cushung” Pole’s comments, Jus Bless stormed back from on 0-2 deficit to pull off a resonating comeback during a thrilling five set victory by beating defending champions Terminators for the first time in their existence Friday, in BVI Amateur Volleyball Association league play.

Terminators—who hadn’t lost a game since falling in the 2005 championship series to Young Guns—won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-23, before Jus Bless took the last three, 25-20, 25-20 and 16-14.

Jus Bless’ player-coach Drexel Glasgow had no comments following the game and attempts to contact him via cell phone were unsuccessful.

“I think it was a situation where the players were just a little bit too comfortable,” player-coach Elsworth Phillip explained. “We started out a little flat and basically underestimated them and of course you see, Jus Bless took the opportunity and won the game.”

During a Thursday night radio sports program, Pole said after Terminators beat Jus Bless in their last outing that they were “Jus less” and when he went outside, they were “just a mess.”

“They really played a good game but I think we could have capitalized on more of their errors,” Pole noted. “They really played a good strong game and they beat us, no doubt about it. I’m not scared to say they beat us. But, I only want to remind them that it’s only by two (points) they beat us.”

Pole said it was a combination of fatigue and going to five sets—something they have not done in three years. But, he added, it’s not an excuse. “You can’t come to war and don’t have all your equipment,” he observed. “You have to come to war to war. But, they already see the look in my eyes for the next time. They are already scared although they won. You can’t be winning and be scared.”

Forfeitures plagued the rest of the weekend games. Seventh Day Adventist forfeited to the Moorings’ Dream team. Up and coming did likewise against Set It Off while Termin’ x, also forfeiter to ‘n Motion.

In the only game played on Sunday, defending champions ‘n Motion beat Raw Power in straight sets, 25-9, 25-21 and 25-19.
