Caribbean Games update
TORTOLA – Exactly four months from today is the opening of the Inaugural Caribbean Games in Trinidad & Tobago. The British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee will be sending a contingent that includes competitors from both Athletics and Tennis.

Russ Penn Selected as Chef de Mission for YOG
TORTOLA – The BVI Olympic Committee has selected Stephanie Russ Penn to serve as Chef de Mission for the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games next year. The Games will be staged in Singapore between August 14 and 26, 2010.

TORTOLA – The BVI Olympic Committee has selected four individuals to serve as Chef de Mission in upcoming regional and international games: Cleave Farrington, Guy Malone, Mark Chapman and Xavier “Dag” Samuels.

Three to Make Collegiate Debuts

TORTOLA—There was a time when we had no women competing in Collegiate athletics in the United States. Then there were a few. But, times have certainly changed. This weekend, three of our female athletes, Dominique Maloney, Ashley Kelly and Britney Wattley are expected to make their Collegiate debuts indoors for their respective schools—Butler Community College, University of Illinois and Morgan State University.
Add Texas’ sophomore sensation Chantel Malone’s season opener this weekend as well to the mix and it’s surely a major accomplishment in hour athletic history—one that’s easily overlooked.

First Athletes of The Week Named
TORTOLA—The British Virgin Islands Athletics Association launched its Athletes of the Week Program during Saturday’s first in a series of development meets. In its inaugural year the BVIAA’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. The BVIAA names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the BVIOC website. The association will recognize its athletes in the Age Group, Jr. and Sr. Divisions throughout the season.
