Caribbean Games update
TORTOLA – Exactly four months from today is the opening of the Inaugural Caribbean Games in Trinidad & Tobago. The British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee will be sending a contingent that includes competitors from both Athletics and Tennis.

Russ Penn Selected as Chef de Mission for YOG
TORTOLA – The BVI Olympic Committee has selected Stephanie Russ Penn to serve as Chef de Mission for the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games next year. The Games will be staged in Singapore between August 14 and 26, 2010.

Penn Elected Third BVIOC President

TORTOLA--Ephraim Penn was elected as the third president of the BVI Olympic Committee in the 28-year history of the organization. Penn—who succeeded founding member Rey O’Neal, who stepped down after being at the helm of the organization for 24 its 28 years—defeated John Lewis, 10-2. The post of 1st Vice President was the keenest contested, with BVI Softball Association president Neville “Sheep” Smith, defeating Lewis 7-5 after a 6-6 first round tie. Lewis had been a member of the committee since 1988. Roy Barry, BVI Volleyball Association Vice President, got the nod for 2nd Vice President, when Cycling Federation President David Thomas withdrew. Treasurer Mark Chapman and Secretary General Dean Greenaway were elected by acclimation. Zebalon McLean became the athlete’s representative by a 10-2 margin over Gloria Fahie. Thomas, who was unopposed, remains as Public Relations Officer.

TORTOLA—The BVI Olympic Committee is gearing up for major changes in leadership during its November 26 General Assembly, where elections will be held. President and founding member Rey O’Neal–who has been at the helm of the organization for 24 of its 28-year existence is stepping down. He will become the committee’s first immediate past president. The BVIOC executive body will be decided on by its membership during the elections. Nominations for positions on the executive wrapped up on Nov 5. The list of nominees has to be circulated to member federations and associations at least 14 days before elections according to the constitution.
The constitution also states that incumbent members are automatically contesting their positions unless notice is received to the contrary.
