BVI Wraps up CAC Game With Series of Firsts
CARTAGENA, Colombia—The British Virgin Islands on Sunday wrapped up its most successful Central American and Caribbean Games since it began participating in 1982, with four finalists in athletics, one gold medal and a series of firsts. Three sports debuted, one returned and women competed for the first time in 24 years.
For the first time, the BVI had a record five sports participating—athletics, cycling, squash, tennis and sailing—with 15 athletes—another record. Cycling, squash and tennis debuted in the games—while sailing returned for the first time since 1993.

Sailors Leaving CAC Games Battle Tested
CARTAGENA, Colombia—With Bryshaun Scatliffe and Sean Anderson returning BVI sailing to the Central American Games for the first time since 1993, a new era for the sport in international competition has begun. While neither of the 17-year olds had performances near what they expected, their games debut lays the foundation for future competitions once they apply themselves. “I would say it was a valuable experience based on their inexperience. I think they learnt a lot from their first CAC Games and it will be a big step for the next one,” Coach Ewan Anderson said.

Matthias Becomes 4th CAC Finalist
CARTAGENA, Colombia—Discus Thrower Eric "Shaq" Matthias became the record fourth BVI finalist in the 20th Central American and Caribbean Games which wraps up today in Cartagena Colombia, where he was eight overall in his pet event with a mark of 47.87 meters.
Matthias joined 100 meter finalists Dion Crabbe and Tahesia Harrigan and Long Jumper Keita Cline—all of whom have won medals at different levels of CAC Championships competition. Despite the accomplishment in his major games debut, Matthias was far from being satisfied.

Cline Competes in his Last CAC Games
CARTAGENA, Colombia—Competing in his last major international meeting, British Virgin Islands Long Jumper Keita Cline—one of the territory’s most successful athletes—stopped short of calling it quits, after ending the competition with a mark of 7.08 meters on Friday night in the finals of his event in the Central American and Caribbean Games, in Cartagena, Colombia.
“I came out with pretty good expectations and felt pretty good, but I probably can’t say. It’s between injuries and a variety of things why I couldn’t put it together,” Cline said. “No excuses, it was a crappy performance."

Crabbe Narrowly Misses 200 Meters Final
CARTAGENA, Colombia—Dion Crabbe narrowly missed a place in tonight’s Central American Games 200 meter finals, after finishing fourth in the first of two heats. Crabbe, sixth in the 100 meter finals was seeking his second successive finals berth in his pet event, where he was fourth in 2002, after winning the 100 meters. Running from lane six, Crabbe posted a season’s best time of 21.02 seconds, but did not advance, as two people in the second heat posted faster times. He was 10th overall. “This morning, we knew he had the potential to go to the second round which he did, but, it wasn’t his best 200,” coach Dag Samuels said after Crabbe recorded a time of 21.36 seconds in the prelims.
