After Pan Ams, Harrigan Looks to Worlds

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil—British Virgin Islands sprinter Tahesia Harrigan began her final tune up for the upcoming World Championships in Osaka, Japan, with a fourth place finish in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday. Harrigan had a time of 11.20 seconds, to finish behind Belgium’s Kim Gevaert’s 11.04 winning time. USA’s Carmelita Jeter and Me’Lisa Barber, were second and third respectively in 11.04 and 11.11 respectively. She avenged earlier losses to the Bahamas’ Debbie Ferguson and Brianna Glenn. Today, she competes in Thessaloníki, Greece, before shutting down to train for Worlds, which run from Aug 25-Sept 2.

Mental Mistakes Hamper Cline's Performance

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil—Keita Cline didn’t let pouring rain, swirling winds or the cold conditions of the Brazilian winter get to him in Saturday’s triple jump at Joao Havelange Stadium on the last day of competition in the 15th Pan American Games here in Rio de Janiero, but, a mental mistake affected his performance.
“Frankly, I think nerves got the best of me and I had to get it out of the way. It was like ‘OK, let’s get ready to go,’” he said of his first jump which was a foul in his return to the event in a major competition. “In the next jump, I just couldn’t get under it in the second phase and I couldn’t finish,” he noted of the effort that measured 14.37 meters.

Keita Cline Wrapping up BVI Performances Today

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil—Veteran Keita Cline will go back to his roots, as the British Virgin Islands athletes wrap up competition today in the 15th Pan American Games, which ends with Sunday’s closing ceremony.
Cline, in his third Pan Am Games, was the territory’s lone representative in Santo Domingo in 2003, where he was a 200 meter semifinalist. Today, Cline, the territory’s most success junior male athlete, will return to his jumping roots, when he competes in the triple jump at 4:30 p.m. Atlantic time.

Kevin Fahie Falls Short of 200 Meters Expectations

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil—Kevin Fahie became the first of two British Virgin Islands male athletes to see action in the 15th Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday, ahead of today’s track and field off day. Action resumes on Friday and Keita Cline will Triple Jump during Saturday’s last day of competition. Female athletes Tahesia Harrigan, Dominique Maloney and Leniece Lewis, wrapped up competition on Tuesday night. Fahie though, was happy with his reaction in yesterday’s 200 meters and his curve running, before things fell apart after that. He had a non advancing time off 22.39 seconds, good for seventh place in his heat.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil—Sprinter Tahesia Harrigan who had a narrow fourth place finish in the 15th Pan American Games women’s 100 meter dash on Tuesday night, is thanking the British Virgin Islands for its support in her quest to become the territory’s first medalist ever in the 24 year history of participating in the games. “I’m really honored to represent the country and being among the first women here and to do a lot of things, and I really thank you for your support,” said Harrigan who departs for Europe this evening for two meets before taking a break to prepare for the World Championships in Osaka, Japan, Aug 25-Sept. 2.
