TORTOLA – The BVI Olympic Committee has selected four individuals to serve as Chef de Mission in upcoming regional and international games: Cleave Farrington, Guy Malone, Mark Chapman and Xavier “Dag” Samuels.
Farrington has been selected to serve as Chef de Mission for the Inaugural Caribbean Games, in Trinidad and Tobago, which will be held from July 13-19, 2009. He currently serves as the Public Relations Officer for the BVI Amateur Volleyball Association.
Malone has been selected to serve as Chef de Mission for the XXI CAC Games, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, which will be held from July 17-August 1, 2010. He currently serves as President of the BVI Amateur Basketball Federation.
Chapman has been selected to serve as Chef de Mission for the XIX Commonwealth Games, in New Delhi, India, which will be held from October 3-14, 2010.He currently serves as Treasurer of the BVIOC and is also the President of the BVI Squash Racquets Association.
Samuels has been selected to serve as Chef de Mission for the XVI Pan American Games, in Guadalajara, Mexico, which will be held from October 13-30, 2011. He currently serves as Chief Coach for the BVI Amateur Athletics Association. Additionally, Samuels has served as Chef de Mission to past games, including the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing, China.
“I have confidence that all four of these individuals are more than competent to handle the large workload and responsibility that has been entrusted to them,” said BVIOC Executive Director Derek McKie.
McKie added that, in February, the BVIOC will be nominating a Chef de Mission for the Inaugural Youth Olympic Games, in Singapore, which will take place in August 2010
