TORTOLA--A new BVI Amateur Athletics Association Executive Committee was elected last night (December 8, 2008) during a General Meeting, held under the tent at the Elmore Stoutt High School.

Mr. Dean Greenaway edged out Mr. Dion Crabbe by 26 votes to be elected President.

Mr. Roger Mathavious was elected Vice President; Mr. Marlon Penn was elected Treasurer; Mrs. Stephanie Russ Penn was elected Secretary; Ms. Michel Penn was elected Assistant Secretary; Mrs. Tamara Archibald Gill was elected Public Relations Officer and Ms. Adriana Herbert was elected Athlete's Representative.

Immediately after the elections, an amendment was approved by members to enshrine the following positions to the Constitution which are now part of the Executive Committee: Mr. Rey O'Neal will serve as Lifetime President; Mr. Ephraim Penn will serve as Immediate Past President; Ms. Rose Adams will serve as Lifetime Secretary and Mr. Dag Samuels will serve as Chief Coach.

Additionally, a Selection Committee was established to include Mr. Dag Samuels as Chief; Mrs. Angelita Bernard, Mr. Rey O'Neal, Mr. Willis Todman and Mr. Steve Augustine, with Mr. Hastings Grant serving as the observer.

During his acceptance speech, Dean Greenaway emphasized on immediate tasks of the new team, which included the selection of a 2008 BVI Youth/Junior/Senior Male and Female Athlete of the Year. The Committee is also charged with the selection of coaches for meets during the 2009 season.

The executive team will have its first meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the BVI Olympic Committee offices.
