TORTOLA—David Grant scored first and second half goals to lead the Wolues past the Sugar Boys 3-0, on Sunday, in Virgin Gorda Soccer league play at the Valley Recreation Grounds. Elvis Mangal also scored in the second half.

“We knew they were basically in disciplined and knew we could frustrate them if we had men behind the ball and blocked most of their efforts,” Martin Cooke explained. “We knew that by frustrating their chances, they’d create spaces at the back and that’s what we exploited.”

Alex Green said his Sugar Boys team said they started with seven players last week when they suffered a 9-3 loss. In Sunday’s game they were at full strength, but they did not play well. “The Wolues played a better game and we have to give them credit,” he said.

Last week, the Wolues played GT Massive to a 1-1 draw and Cooke said they weren’t at full strength. He said they have already accumulated four points and have their strongest team returning. Rangers he said is the team to beat, but the way they are playing, they have no fear of anyone.

“We only had 12 players this week and have players coming back from injuries and holidays, so we only can get stronger,” he said. “We are the only team to come up from Tortola and last year especially, we had a limited number of players. This year we have actually made a massive effort by bringing 14-15 players up each time and can substitute and bring in fresh legs in the second half.”

The other game saw GT Massive and Lucian Stars playing to a 1-1 draw.
