Chantel Malone Advance to WJC 400 Semis

TORTOLA—Chantel Malone became the BVI’s first athlete advancing to the semifinals of an IAAF World Jr. Championships competition, when she finished fourth in the fifth heat of the 400 meters preliminaries this morning, in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Running from lane eight, Malone who ran a season’s best of 54.58 when she won last weekend’s Leeward Islands Jr. Championships at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, circled the oval in 55.38 seconds, booking her place in tomorrow’s semifinals.

Malone will run from lane two in the third of three semifinal heats. The first two athletes crossing the line plus the two fastest overall times will advance to Thursday’s finals.
