Crushers Trim Rams, 15-14, in Season Finale

TORTOLA—The Crushers rallied for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams, 15-14, on Friday night, in the regular season finale of the BVI Softball Association Arnold “Foxy” Barronville league.

 

Both teams will face each other on Friday in the first game of the playoff series. That game precedes the Lady Braves and defending champions Warriors’ contest. 

 

The Crushers had 15 runs on five hits. They committed five errors and left six runners on base. The Rams’ 14 runs came from six hits, eight errors and 10 runners stranded. Shakeria Skelton who relieved Jahresha Skelton—no relation—in the sixth inning, got the victory.  Jelissa Potter who went all the way took the loss. Crushers’ Gertrude Thomas was 3-for-3, with runs scored and a run batted in. Rams’ Bria Smith went 2-for-5, scored twice and drove in one.

 

Nelson Ramirez and Jeremy Penn each went 4-4 to pace Young Talent’s 13-hit attack, during Saturday’s 19-2 defeat of the Virgin Gorda All Stars. Young Talent did not commit any errors and left two on base. Winning pitcher Jamal “Lefty” Allen tossed a two-hitter against the Virgin Gorda—who made six errors and left 10 runners on base—to get the win. The loser was Andrell Bailey. Penn had 6 RBI’s and scored twice while Ramirez drove in three. Penn, Mahal DeCastro and Elliston George each homered. Bailey and Shaka Fahie each had one hit for Virgin Gorda All Stars.

                                                                                                                                                                                      Raymond “Mahassa” Mercer had a 4-for-4 night with a homer, four runs scored and six runs batted in during the Blue Wings’ 22-4, drubbing of the Reds. Blue Wings’ batsmen collected 18 hits, left eight on base. The Reds had 7 hits, made 7 errors and left 7 runners stranded. Jason “Mad” Fonseca got the win and Delvin Jennings suffered the loss. Raphael “Booker” Jack had a 5 RBI game on a 3-for-4 night with two runs scored. Khoy “Mailman” Frett delivered 5 RBIs and went 3-for-3 and scored twice. Reds’ Elwyn Barry was the top hitter with two hits in three at bats. He scored once and drove in one.

 

Young Talent defeat Dodgers 25 15

 

With the league entering its final weekend of men’s play, Young Talent defeated Dodgers, 25-15, on Sunday night at the Old Recreation Grounds in the only game played. Young Talent had 25 runs on 25 hits, 2 errors and left 9 runners on base. The Dodgers’ 15 runs were on 11 hits, 7 errors and 9 runners left on base. Jaquan Thomas was the winning pitcher, while Phillippe Muichard took the loss. Young Talent’s Jeremy Penn was 3-for-4, including two homers, scored two runs and had 4 RBIs. Tramore Frazer had a 5-for-5 night, scored twice and finished with three runs batted in. The Dodgers’ Josh Hudson was 2-for-5, including a homer. He scored four times and had 3 RBIs. Elliott Higgins was 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in three.
