Young Legs Upend Defending Champs East, 91-74

TORTOLA
—Young Legs bounced back from a tough, 69-66, overtime loss to the Guns, by knocking defending champions East from the ranks of the unbeaten in the BVI Basketball Federation league on Saturday, with a convincing 91-74, victory.

Coach Brian “Bash” Brewley said his team was making a statement. “Definitely, we were sending a message, telling them that they did not dethrone us,” he said. “We have been the champions from 2001-2006. They are now holding it for us.”

Young Legs held a five-point, 62-57, lead at the end of the third quartere, then employed a press that the East could not break, resulting in turnovers and being outscored, 29-17 in the fourth quarter. “I went small on them, brought in my best defensive team, put some pressure on them and made them make some turnovers,” Brewley noted. “When they made their adjustments, we went big. But, we had the taste from East in our mouths from last year so everybody was pumped up and ready to go.”

Jason Edwin paved the way for the victory with 32 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals. Kennedy Bass added a 16 point 10 rebound double, double and Trevorn Lewis followed up with 12.

Halstead Chiverton paced four East’s scores in double figures with 22 points. Douron Phillips and Dwayne “Kobo” Penn chipped in 15 and 14 each, with Jahmal “Trigga” Rabsatt, tossing in another 12.

The Guns trimmed the Bad Boys, 67-66. Steve Parillon was the leading scorer with 28 points. Houston Penn and Randy “Chino” George followed up with 14 and 11 points each. Kelvin Samuel had the Bad Boys’ top score with 22 points.

Travis Issac had 25 points in leading Ghetto Mix past Off Da Chainz, 85-82. Leando Creque and Calvin Smith added 14 and 11 each. Daryl George and Clemile Gibbs had Off da Chainz’s leading scores with 15 points each.

Basics dominated the boards and overpowered Full Force, 68-53, behind Kyle Abraham’s 22 points and 18 rebounds double. Jamal Serrant had 14 points and pulled 20 off the glass, to go with four blocks and four steals. Kemuel Jackson settled for 14 points and 14 rebounds as Full Forces top scorer. Keshawn Pope also had 14 points.

Da Boys pulled out a 3-point, 57-54, triumph over the Finishers. Andre Stoutt finished with 11 points. Alton Vanterpool had a game best 21 points for the Finishers, with Phillip Glasgow Jr. adding another 10 to the tally.

Shamori Morgan and Ryan Mills had 25 and 23 points respectively as And One crushed Young Gunners, 103-59. Dequan Byron and Dominic Ward contributed 15 and 12 points each. Jevon Serrant had Young Gunners’ top score with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Wolf Pack beat All Ball, 75-54. Another Level downed the Elmore Stoutt High School Rams, 79-49, and Outkast nipped Against Da Odds, 62-61.
