TORTOLA
—It was easily the most anticipated game on the BVI Basketball Federation senior division schedule, after several Young Legs’ players left to play with rival Guns. The game did not disappoint.

For the second successive time, the Guns blew an 11-point lead late in the game, but, this time they recovered and were better at the line than Young Legs, to seal a thrilling 69-66, overtime victory, when Calvert White scored two of his game high 20 points. Kennedy Bass made one of three free throws to send the game into overtime tied at 57-57, after they outscored the Guns 19-7 to force the tie before boisterous fans.

“This was a game between two well deserving team and anyone could have won it,” said relieved Guns coach Andrew Fahie whose squad fell to the East in overtime, 87-83 last week. “But, we showed tonight we have a lot of heart and that’s what won it for us.  We didn’t give up. Last week we were looking for the referee to help us instead of playing. But tonight, we kept playing.”

White pulled 12 boards and Raheem Smith followed up with 10 points. Jason Edwin and Kennedy Bass were Young Legs’ leading scorers with 16 and 13 points respectively.

“Definitely, we didn’t take care of the basketball, missed a lot of free throws and had poor execution,” summarized Young Legs’ coach Brian “Bash” Brewley. “The paper team played really good but, we’ll meet again.”

Ryan Mills had a game high 34 points and 10 rebounds double double, lifting And One to a stunning victory over defending Jr. division champions Virgin Gorda Jr. Mystics, 81-77.  Dequan Bryon added 17 points and 9 steals. Coy Dore poured in 29 points and eight rebounds to lead the Jr. Mystics.

The Bad Boys overpowered the Latinos, 90-73, behind Kelvin Samuel’s 26 points. Nathaniel “Nat” Malone added 13. Andy Ramirez poured in 24 points and grabbed 19 boards with six steals, to lead the Latinos.

Off de Chainz beat Top Shottas, 89-76, behind Climele Gibbs’ 21 points and seven steals. Algernon Augusite followed up with 15 points and Shevon Reese, 14. Top Shottas’ Leslee Smith finished with a game best 26 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks. Ephraim Gordon tossed in another 19 points and five steals.

Long Look Bulldogs trashed Peacemakers, 66-54. Tad Martin and Kevin Issac had 20 and 18 points each. Nahasee Chalwell was Peacemakers top scorer with 18 points.
