—Neville “Sheep” Smith and Jerry Gooding combined on a two-hitter, as the West blanked the East, 11-0, in the BVI Softball Association men’s All Stars game on Sunday night, to complete a sweep of west teams victories in the weekend showcase.

In Saturday’s Legends game, the West beat the East 7-4, while the West Women downed their East counterparts, 11-4 on Saturday.

The West scored five in the first and five in the third en route to the blowout victory, after chasing East’s starter, Jason “Mad” Fonseca, and showed no mercy on reliever Dwight Brookes.

The West’s Khalif Henley had a 2-for 2 night, scored three times with 3 RBIs. Brock Creque and Bryon Parsons were 2-for-3 respectively, with Creque hitting a solo homer in the second. He scored three times and drove in two, while Parsons scored once. Leon Martin’s only hit in two at bats was a solo third inning homer. He scored one run and had a run batted in. Mahal DeCastro and Zeddy Smith, had the East’s lone hits.

Kathleen Fahie helped cause by going 2-for-2 with three runs scored, in leading the West past the East, 11-4, in the women’s All Stars contest. Roxie Lettsome and Courtney Frett also went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.

Laura Issac was the East’s hitter of note, with a hit in two trips to the place. She scored once

“The weekend games went well, although I was a disappointed that more players did not show up the games,” association president Smith said. “The games were a chance to show fans who the different players are that have contributed to make BVI softball. Although all the legends did not show up, will be sending them a T-shirt and a medal to show them that we recognize them. We also plan to make this an annual event to continue recognize our legends.”

Smith said plans are to have a similar legends game for women who have been involved in the sport. He said if there’s time, there’s a possibility that they might organize a game before the end of the season.
