TORTOLA—Defending British Virgin Islands Amateur Volleyball Association men’s champions Terminators earned the right to defend their title and said they hope Jus Bless stops Young Guns, after they beat the Moorings’ Dream Team in straight sets on Saturday night.
“To be honest, I would like to go back and face Jus Bless for two reasons,” said Terminators’ player-coach Elswort Phillip, following their 25-23, 29-27 and 26-24 triumph over the Dream Team. “They beat us a few weeks ago and that promoted a lot of hype for the association through the news papers. Secondly, they have never experienced playing in the championship game and this is our 13th time. So, I’ll be happy if they really get a chance to come to the big dance and see what it’s like.”
Disappointed Moorings Dream Team captain Canice Marquis declined to comment on the game.
Terminators setter Osbert “Cushung” Pole who slightly injured his back on a fall, said it was a competitive game. The Dream Team he said also played a very good game and had good backcourt defense. “We didn’t really have much kills, as outstanding kills per say not very much as we usually do because of their backcourt defense but, experience counts,” he noted. “This team has a lot of experience. We have 12 championships—not bragging but bragging, we’ve earned the bragging rights—we are the undertakers. Jus Bless we’re coming with the coffin. Don’t run. You can’t hide.”

Pole said it doesn’t matter who they face from the Jus Bless vs Young Guns encounter, because they come to do the same job every time. He said if Jus Bless comes forward, it’s about vengeance since he lost to them in their last matchup. “They beat me by two,” he recalled of the five set loss that ended their winning streak since the end of the 2006 season. “They are bragging. If they had beaten me my one, it’s still a win. I’m going to deal with the case.”
Meeting Young Guns he noted has been a regular occurrence although they have a few new young players that have changed their style a bit. “We are going to have to change our defensive strategy to deal with that,” he said. “And, we will deal with it.”
Young Guns and Jus Bless’ player-coaches Neville Brathwaite and Drexel Glasgow, scouted the game ahead of tonight’s matchup.
Defending women’s champs ‘n Motion was a straight set, 25-3, 25-14 and 25-16 winner over Up And Coming. “They are a new team to the league from the Elmore Stoutt High School, so they are not as competitive as the other teams,” coach Roy Barry noted. “The team came out and performed as they were expected to and prepared for the championship.”
