BVI, USVI Youth Campers Enjoy Fun Filled Day at Olympic Village

ATHENS, Greece—The four U.S. and British Virgin Islands participants attending the Aug. 11-26 Olympic Games youth camp, were reunited with their respective delegations in the Olympic Games Village on Friday, as a part of their program of activities.

 

The USVI’s Sasha Gumbs and Mohamid Abiff and their BVI counterparts Leniece Lewis and Bryshaun Scatliffe had a full day. They toured the Olympic Games Village, had lunch in the main dining hall, met V.I. and other athletes including Lavorne Jones after she advanced to the 100 meters quarter finals.

Four Olympic Youth Camp Participants to Visit USVI, BVI Delegations Today

ATHENS, Greece—The four U.S. and British Virgin Islands teenagers attending the Aug 11-26 Olympic Youth Camp in Gramatickos, Greece, will visit the Olympic Games Village today.

 

USVI’s participants Sasha Gumbs and Mohamid Abiff and their BVI counterparts Leniece Lewis and Bryshaun Scatliffe, will get to meet the athletes on their delegations, tour living quarters and team offices and the Olympic Games Village. The V. I. participants are among representatives from 200 other countries which have sent two youths.

USVI/BVI Coaches Ready For Start of Track and Field

ATHENS, Greece—U.S. and British Virgin Islands track and field coaches Neville Hodge and Dag Samuels are glad Tuesday’s technical meeting is behind them as they look to Friday’s track and field competition. The Shot Put events start at 10 a.m. today in Olympia.

 

“I think everything is pretty much in place and they gave us an overview of what’s going on and how things are going to run,” Hodge said. “I think all of us needed that information to know that our athletes will be well taken care of. What wasn’t given could have been collected from a technical area so I think the meeting went fairly well.”

Two of Three BVI/USVI Sprinters Liminted to One Olympic Games Event

ATHENS, Greece—Two of the three U.S. and British Virgin Islands sprinters preparing to compete in the Olympic Games track and field segment from August 20-28, will be limited to only one event, as neither has made the Olympic Games ‘B’ qualifying standards of 10.28 seconds in the 100 and 20.75 in the 200 meters respectively.

 

USVI sprinter Adrian Durant will only contest the 100 meters which begins with the preliminary rounds at 10:35 a.m. on August 21. BVI sprinter Dion Crabbe will contest the 200 meters which begin at 10:20 a.m. on Aug 24.
